"Zolair is a micro-utility that provides clean, affordable off-grid energy solutions for the developing world, using our wireless activation and payment system, and robust zinc-powered energy appliance. Energy can be purchased anywhere, anytime, by anyone for anyone!"
Zolair is a startup with enormous potential. They're poised to becoming a leading provider of clean affordable energy to a significant portion of the worlds population and they needed an identity that would speak to investors, and one they wouldn't grow out of in a few years. Its look and feel was also to determine the direction of all future visual communications, including the website.
The identity needed to be strong and reliable, yet also look affordable and approachable. We had to be careful not to step on any toes culturally as well, as this venture is based in Africa.
Using negative space, we played off the symbol that has become recognizable everywhere as the power button. Subtle shading and green and blue hues were used to represent tech, energy, as well as casting them as an eco-aware entity but without that aspect becoming the focus. Forethought was also put into how the logo could be applied to the device itself in the hopes that once this product is in millions of homes, this logo will become a recognized symbol of affordable power, and more importantly, a symbol of the power to improve the lives of millions of people
